When you shop at
PeaceThings you are helping us to do good deeds.
Although we haven't made any money yet, we are intent on
creating a foundation of charitable giving to worthy
causes that support fairness and prosperity for all
inhabitants of this earth. Below is the list of
PeaceThings' good deeds to date, our current wish
list, and suggestions for our visitors.
2006
We sent
ducks and geese and chicks to families through Heffier
International. We gave to UNICEF and the Peace
Alliance.
2005
Our Gifts and Cookies
for Soldiers program was the biggest yet. We had
about 100 sponsor groups, families and individuals who
gifted 133 soldiers. A few minor glitches happened
when a handful of soldiers were re-deployed right before
the holidays. We are hopeful that their packages
followed them. Click here for pictures and links
for our soldiers at Taji
Military Base in Iraq.
We
created The
PeaceThings' Cyber Team for UNICEF Tsunami
Relief Fund. To date (3-15-05) we have
raised
$1,472.30, surpassing our goal! Our
online total doesn't show this because it seems
processing checks takes a long time. But the checks
have been sent. . Every little bit
helps, so join us please!

We sent $100.00 to
Oxfam America's
fund for Asian earthquake and flood aid. Even
though we don't have any money, we did it anyway.
Oxfam uses a very high percentage of donations for
sustainable aid efforts to develop lasting solutions to
poverty, hunger, and social injustice. They are working
round the clock to help provide water, sanitation, food
and shelter to areas recently devestated by earthquake
and flooding.
COOKIES
& GIFTS FOR SOLDIERS - 2004
This holiday season, our third year of doing
Gifts & Cookies for Soldiers, we ended up with a
great bunch of generous sponsors who sent many packages
of gifts and treats to soldiers who weren't able to be
home for the holidays. We had a total of 54
sponsors including individuals, schools, communities,
businesses, and groups who sent gifts to 82 soldiers in
Iraq and Afghanistan. If you would like to
share some holiday cheer with those unable to be home,
please email
soldiers@peacethings.com and we'll put you on our
list. A Big Thank You to all who participated!
Enjoy the pictures we received from grateful soldiers.

Quilts and Blankets:
QUILTS NEEDED FOR RETURNING WOUNDED SOLDIERS FROM IRAQ
-
A quilt guild in Waldorf, MD asks for your help in making quilts for wounded soldiers returning from Iraq. Due to the escalation of hostilities, approximately 40 to 48 wounded soldiers are coming back almost daily. The guild has had to cut back and give quilts to only the most seriously injured. This means that some of the wounded on the plane do not receive quilts. Quilts
or crochet blankets should be no smaller than 36" by 36" (wheelchair size) or lap size (for stretchers) and preferably red, white and blue in any design. Completed quilts
and blankets should be sent to:
Shirley Mandrel, 3135 Whispering Drive, Prince Frederick MD 20678
or to Carol Mitchell, 9815 Hope Acres Rd., White Plains, MD 20695.
The quilts will be forwarded to Andrews Air Force Base for delivery.
You can contact Shirley at her web site: www.itseamssew.com
.
We made a donation to www.laundrylist.org

modifications help reduce our dependence on environmentally and culturally costly energy sources.

We sent a check to the Revolutionary Women
of Afghanistan
(RAWA)
via the Afghan
Women's Mission. We are looking into finding
crafts and clothing created by Afghani women to sell at
PeaceThings, where our business relationship will benefit
them directly.
We sent a Mercy
Corps education backpack to an Afghani school
kid. We look forward to supporting more Mercy Corps
projects.
We sent two checks to the
Victims
Trust Fund of the International Criminal Court which
will be sent to our representatives by the World
Federalist Association of New England.
We sent a bunch of care packages from home
to US soldiers in Iraq last year. We also organized
sponsors and Christmas gifts and cookies for soldiers of the
403rd detachment who were in Bagram, Afghanistan over the
holidays in 2002.
